"What a gold mine ! I had forgotten the pure joy in reading just for fun. Hilarious stories. Incredible detail. All of it, well written. Every page left me waiting for the next "... you know B.J., you may not remember but ...." Truly, `Laugh out Loud' stuff. Best of all, the friendships. That special, and so irreverent, bond between Mark and B.J. That's what I remember too. Mike Scanlon has captured perfectly the way that we communicated back then; how we just "hung out"; and, basically, tried to understand a world that occasionally was moving just a little too fast. And, oh so many laughs !! It is sometimes hard to recall all of the fast paced events of the Sixties and Seventies, that changed our lives forever. This book brings it all back. It's all there --- the innocence, the "we can do anything" spirit, the politics, and the friendships that survived it all. A Great Read. " - Pat A. Even for an Echo Boomer, The Best Good Time is a very entertaining read. Although I was only 7 back in 1978, I remember the music well. However, the interesting part of the book was how Mike blended in the politics and current events. The stories were pretty classic as well. Mark Stanton reminded me a lot of Cliff Clavin from Cheers! - T. Hobin
"The Best Good Time was my late-summer beach-house reading and oh, what fun! Anyone who was a young adult in the '70s can't help but see a little bit of B.J. and Mark in their old friends and even themselves. And I think we can all relate to some of the predicaments they found themselves in. This book is a fast, fun read that evokes laughter, memories and some introspection. Great novel, Mike!" - George Leon "What a fabulous read! I laughed out loud so many times that people at the pool kept coming and asking me what I was reading. The Best Good Time is one of the best written and entertaining books I have read in a long, long time. Pure fun and great stories." - B. Vance "Mike (Scanlon) has written a thoroughly enjoyable first novel...So if, in particular you graduated from college in the 60s or early 70s, and want a casual book to bring back some of the more pleasant memories of friendships past and songs and events lost to your memory pick this book up. You won't be disappointed." - by Lurch "The Best Good Time is a delightful, well written novel... The author also creates a sometimes serious, sometimes hilarious, laugh-out-loud, dialogue between the two men, as they drive from encounter to encounter across America. The book is hard to put down. The reader is pulled to the next stop, the next humorous adventure, and actually waits in anticipation for the next colorful character to appear." - P. Russo |
